Personality

Frank, honest, and welcoming are three of Reina's distinctive impression values. A girl who has some sort of charm and attraction to welcome anyone into her world. Some said that she blends well with men; a tomboy. One might assume she doesn't collect skirts, even though she does.Reina used to have some reservations about speaking first, until she met the Azais and The Racer's Edge compatriots. Events that occurred during her visit to Los Angeles had massively changed her worldview: that humanity's odd game is black and white. She grew to tolerate and blend in, instead of dwelling around her checkered past. That same world brings her new thrills. Delinquency is her game, just like her stepmother Ritsuko. But her driving tells otherwise, as she prefers technique over brute force. Until now, she's still known as the C2 Queen.

"Garage Moonside is one of the premier automotive workshops in Tokyo; specialized in engines, forced inductions, and handling tuning. Established by "a local Mitsubishi enthusiast", the garage operated mostly as power haven for speed enthusiasts."AutoRV, June 2016

Sakura Tsubaki was born to a humble family in early 1992. Her parents were strapped in such a huge debt that led to giving up the little Sakura. Placed in a box, she was handed to a delinquent couple who just settled in.Jotaro Mizusaka and his wife Ritsuko Ashikaga were surprised by the arrival of an unknown baby. She was then named Reina by her adoptive father and mother; in the hope that their first daughter grew as a beauty. But violence marred the life of young Reina. At that time, Jotaro was a high-ranking member of the Sunazuka Clan who often arrived home drunk. Arguments, fists, and objects tossed during her childhood. All of them were directed at Reina's number one protector, Ritsuko, who was an outlaw related to the Los Angeles-based Azai Gang. For about three years, Reina endured her stepfather's misconducts and violent rebuttals from his wife. Even when both of them showed their nicest affection to the little Reina, their behavior indirectly poured delinquency and fear into her.The worst happened in 1996 when Ritsuko threw a knife at Jotaro in a fierce argument, killing him on the spot. Reina observed their fight that led to the murder, and had to witness her mother being taken into custody. Local authorities appointed Kotaro Masamune, Ritsuko's lawyer, as her guardian.Reina's new childhood with the Masamune family began after Ritsuko was sent to five years in jail. Kotaro moved her to Kyoto where she was taken care of by his daughters, Ryo and Yoko.

"You could hear them before you could see them, which, given the extent of their wild modifications, was an impressive feat. The silence of twilight splintered with the sound of highly-strung, highly-tuned engines, a dozen modified cars thunder past at savage velocities, their taillights ribbons of blazing crimson slashed temporarily across the still night air."Car Keys - Midnight Club: Inside Japan's Most Infamous Illegal Street Racing Gang, May 2017

The Masamunes were, and still are, one of the most revered families in Kyoto. Known for its traditional values, the family brought a new environment for the young girl to grow. It was a shocker for Reina, who had already been exposed to misdemeanors; to be brought into a harmonious family, mostly led by Ryo as the oldest daughter. For the first time, Reina was liberated from domestic violence, but not from delinquency. Ryo gave her best to pass down his father's values and somehow steered the young girl into wisdom. Yoko, on the other hand, wasn't a far cry from Ritsuko; a brash, wild, but honest thrill-seeker.Even as a 10-year old, Yoko often took Reina to fighting camps where they also met Maki Sunazuka; the heir to the Sunazuka Clan. The two shared their love for cars with the young as much as their addiction to fighting. This put Reina at odds with Ryo whenever she returned home bruised or scarred.Yet from those bruises and scars, Reina got to know and learn with 'the masters.' Maki introduced Reina and Yoko to Kikuri Matsushita; who was managing Midori Honda through a karting championship at that time. From there, Kikuri took the young Reina to the Nagano family, where she met her best friend Hanabi for the first time. Her time with the Masamune Family ended in 2002, when her guardianship was transferred to the Sakakibara family before being returned to Ritsuko in 2003. She then raised Reina with the help of her sisters: Rikako, Rin, and Ruriko. At the behest of Kotaro, Ritsuko was given contacts to people whom Reina had already met; soon becoming friends with Kikuri and the Head of Sunazuka Clan, Eiji.

"Your mother used to love this scene, and I think you will too. We call it the Speed Mecca."Kiyomi "Midnight Rose" Kawagoe, November 2006

Ritsuko's incarceration had a drastic effect on the family's financial woes. She rented a smaller, cheaper apartment in Adachi to save cash on bills. Her drastic move was to give up her Toyota Soarer which had helped her earn a reputation in the Tokyo Expressway scene back in the early 1990s. The car ended up in the hands of the Masamunes; owned by Ryo until this day. Those actions opened up possibilities for Reina to enroll in a private school, and to make ends meet by taking small part-time gigs. In 2006, her luck and love of cars began to change forever.During a part-time gig as a comic book translator, Reina was hired to help a young lady named Mitsue to transliterate some documents into English. Mitsue then introduced herself as Mitsue Hayashibara and, in the middle of their work, told Reina a lot about Ritsuko's fame as a street racer. Mitsue then confessed that she herself also race in the Expressway as "Late Night Cinderella".The story fascinated young Reina and their friendship began overnight. After finishing all of their work, Mitsue took Reina home in her RX-8 with a stop to visit her friend: Kiyomi "Midnight Rose" Kawagoe. The meeting was in the busy Tatsumi Parking Area; where literally everyone and their cars met to chat.Reina felt warmth within the automotive scene. Cars in all sizes and forms came and went; some caught her eyes with their gleaming "Mid Night" sticker on the windscreen. Yet two cars marked a lot in her heart: a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI GSR from Osaka, and Kiyomi's Mitsubishi GTO VR-4.This was when Reina opened to Kiyomi, saying "Will you teach me the basics of racing in the Expressway?"

"Reina, look at yourself. Time had refined you to become the most exquisite damsel the world ever have. You are no longer a juvenile. Think about it."Rin Ashigaura, June 2012

On the age of 16, June 2008, Reina was confessed by her own childhood friend. Thus, she made a mark on entering a scene new to her: Roulettezoku.A mixture of high speed, tight turns, and millions of yens. Everyone who had cash in their hands took part in this deep dark world. Some of which were remains of the old Mid Night Club, or from far west, the No Good Racing. Big banks, exotics, and a throwback to the nineties. For Reina, it's a strange familiar world.Strange as in how and why they were racing on public expressways just for bragging rights. Familiar? Oddly, on her first two days, she discovered her own relatives were in the pool: Rin and Ruriko Ashigaura. Rin and Ruriko were in the showing off part of the scene with their modified
Toyota Mark II Tourer V; living their night life in exuberance and fear of getting tickets. Unlike Ritsuko, they didn't race. Their life had been nailed onto the national speed limit. Or so those were things Reina could know.
Rin was the one in Reina's most familiar side. After school, Reina would've been captured by the two and be driven around the C1 loop before Renji did. By the end of the day, she always ended up in Hakozaki or Daikokufuto Parking Area; then Renji took her around. But, little did he knew that Rin and Ruriko had given warnings for the girl about Renji: he's a ticking time bomb.Including both Rin and Ruriko, everyone in Hakozaki knew Renji is a womanizer. He went around with different girls every night and normally seen in Ikebukuro route. Reina was given to choices: bail or make a scene. She chose to make a scene of her own.September 2008, Touma's Lancer Evolution was finished with Reina's aid. She was given a complete tutor of mechanics without Renji, and also a grant to the Evo. The car was fettled with a Tomei motor and heavily modified for expressway passes; a monster of itself. While Reina was taming it gradually, Touma had a rest on his retirement. He didn't much care about it, he only cared about Reina.Time to make the scene.

The scene in her mind was only to win Renji back by winning races in Ikebukuro. In the mean time, she was also trying hard to ride the Evo's waves. She was adamant that without it, Reina wouldn't be someone. And so, after almost six months of trial and error, Reina entered 'the Evolution dragon'.May 2009, Reina drove the car to Hakozaki for a race meet. She was randomly contending herself with a white Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera. At that time, they were up in their pars. Both had around 570 horsepowers and both belched fire from their exhausts. Worst still, the Lambo was driven by a famous CEO with a lot of track experience. Reina, in the other hand, had a great understanding on the Evo. It was her monster, not Touma's.The race started by a horn and their dogfight instantly hued the Ikebukuro route red. They traded positions eleven times before the Evo walked away into the distance; a first win to start a chain of victories. Hakozaki was invaded by the new queen of speed. After four cars win streak, Renji spotted Reina in his limelight, forgetting all of his girls. He drew the midnight haired back to his hands as she accepted his apology after the Evo won over his PV35 Skyline. Thus, Reina drove the man home to meet his old man; who was mad angry at him. While they settled their problems out, Reina struck more triumph and more cars in her dogfight. Before her hiatus in October 2009, she claimed 18 cars; half of them are pink slip races. Reina hid all of the 9 cars from public knowledge until now.She skipped racing for family until May 2010, when once again she made an action. This time, she kept away the Evo from sight and took Renji's Skyline for a drive. Day 15th, a call for a race began: the Queen of Ikebukuro versus the mighty GTR. A girl named Kankoku Rina challenged Reina in a duel; the Skyline duel. As the contender, Reina accepted. However, at the very next day after the agreement, a treason unveiled. Reina saw Renji and Rina went into the love hotel; tacking anguish and anger for her.The race day. Reina asked Renji to be her co-driver and a talk, while Rina cynically weighed their decision from her R32 GTR. As the flag dropped, Reina brought her anger to her driving, preemptively scaring Renji. She interrogated the man for the whole race, neglecting her passion to win. While Rina walked away with the win, Reina diverted the car to C1 in her distress. Then, not long after the diversion, she lost control of the car and side swept its passenger side on the middle tunnel divider; after the S-bend. Renji died instantly and Reina suffered major injuries. Concussion, two fractures on her arms, and another two on her legs. She was rushed to the hospital immediately, and Renji to the morgue.Upon investigation, Reina had lost her memory about the crash. She only knew she already hit something, but not the car she drove. Touma, who had lost his son, chased Reina and Ritsuko for damages which his decision turned the whole case. It was moved to the court that eventually sentenced Reina to five years in prison.Reina was 18 when she was incarcerated.

From those five years, she served three behind bars. The fourth and fifth were dropped to probation and sentence to work. Rin, who was working on the service division of Autobacs, grant Reina a job on her garage in Gotenba; the place where she found herself with her new best friend, Hanabi Nagano. She worked there for two years, before her freedom in June 2015.To commemorate, she visited Touma Marunouchi for one last time. The old man had reached the end with his ongoing cancer. He had pardoned Reina for the death of his son, and gave deeds to run his shop: Moonside Garage. Touma died from complications in January 2016; leaving Reina in charge of the garage.

Moonside Garage is a tuning shop in the middle of Adachi, Tokyo. Its only branch is Reina's garage shop in Fushimi, Kyoto; where she stored some of her latest collection of Evo. Her last hurrah, stored amongst the collection, was Moonside's first demo car: A Maziora colored CT9A Lancer Evolution IX MR RS producing 887hp in the homage of Touma Marunouchi. Reina sometimes race the car back in the day, from year 2016 to 2017. It was best known to beat a 700hp turbocharged Honda NSX-T on the hilly roads, while only producing less than 500hp.Moonside specializes in three manufacturers: Mitsubishi, Honda, and Toyota. The firm normally tune cars for time attack purposes, track days, or daily hobby. It also doubles as engine sourcing house after a certain agreement with a scrapyard in Chiba.
